I've been away for a bit, and by away, I mean I've been deeply working on that first draft I sent to my editor. While that was happening, my son decided to follow a different plan for his future. It was definitely a surprise for us. Since I was dedicating time to the draft, the planning for the current WIP went by the wayside, but I'm leaning toward a conflict, so yay. I have another favorite regarding my BL views. Oh, and I have two TikTok movies for you!

So let's travel down the rabbit hole!

The Draft - Let it Cook!

Well, I was happy that I sent my draft to the editor, who sent it back and told me I had work to do. My broken heart, let me tell you. Writing books in a series, people? No joke. I use the heck out of Scrivener to keep my research and book details, but there's nothing like having a person who knows your books. Thanks, Debbie. She told me to check the details, which I did. There were a few discrepancies, a couple of name issues, and many areas where I could have done better. I took my time and went through it. This time, I was the one who made my writing bleed. Let's hope it meets her approval.

I think one of the things to remember when you write your first draft is the rule of stepping away from your draft. If I had given myself a few weeks and then gone back to the story, I would have caught the issues then. That's one of the rules.

One really helpful strategy, included for when you've completed your first draft, is to let it rest for a few weeks. So doing that next time. It certainly would have saved me. I was so excited, too excited.

Take your time. Let it cook!

Which Way Did He Go?

My son, all of 18 years old, has decided he wants to become a firefighter. We weren't ready for this one. Are we proud of him? Yes, but when we planned out his life, this was not in it. It's funny how you think one way about your kid's life, and then he spins off into a completely different direction. He's been joking lately about being in the firefighter calendar. Yeah, okay. Silly guy. I think what I admire most about his decision is his taking the initiative to get out there and look, apply, and take the test. He's figuring out what he wants in life, which way he wants to go. As a school counselor, I'm always trying to encourage students to follow their dreams. Of course, I'll do the same for mine. Doesn't mean it won't frighten me a little watching him learn to fly.

That's all we can do, be the wind and offer them support.

Tumbling Into the Text

My focus over the last few weeks has been entirely on fixing my book. Now that I'm more confident about it and Debbie has it once again, I'm working on the current draft for the next one in that same series. The first book was Flirty and Red. Check out the details below.

A traveling nurse who doesn’t mind a little fun. A griffin who’s not playing around.

Gentry Red Redmond gave up on finding a mate. It turns out the one he needed just didn’t come in the package he was used to hunting. Sebastian Del Marco, a traveling nurse, wants to be loved, but he’s afraid to trust. Instead of relationships, he’s been willing to accept just having fun. Once Red realizes Sebastian is just the mate he needs, can he convince Sebastian to take a chance on love?

The second book follows Jacobi's story. The third will be about a side character. I don't want to say too much. I'll just say they're quite the character.

In prior posts, I mentioned how difficult it has been to figure out the conflict. At this point, I've decided to go with an internal one in which the characters struggle to accept themselves and each other. I'm loving the dynamics in the draft so far and am getting closer to actually writing the story. I'm a writer who likes to start with an outline first. I have to have a foundation. I may write off the cuff a little as I go, but I need a plan. I'm a plantser, I suppose. For a little more on writing styles, click on the image below.

With school out for the most part, meaning no students, I have additional time to get this one together. I look forward to sharing more. Cross your fingers for me on the book's second trip with Debbie. A girl could use a little luck!

Bingeing the Boyfriends

If you've been checking out my posts recently, you know I'm in love with BL shows right now. I gave you a list of my faves in the last post. So, not to overdo it, I'll just say which one is my favorite, other than KinnPorsche, because that show is everything.

Fourever You: The Sun from Another Star

I love this one. There's a ghostly element to the show that makes it different from other BLs I've watched so far, and the main characters are so cute. Daotok has some serious walls from a past relationship that Arthit really has to work to climb. I haven't finished it yet, so no spoilers. Just know that seeing Arthit help Daotok open up is so beautiful to watch.

Unbreak My Heart

That's it for me, people! Thanks for taking a trip down the rabbit hole with me.
